both of my parents are/were clinical child psychologists. My mom used to be the principal of the public school autism program when I was a kid. Her entire career and doctorate is focused on diagnostic testing and treatment of autism in kids. She knows Simon Baron-Cohen! Spent a lot of my childhood getting dragged to parent/teacher meetings where I'd hang out with a lot of the lower-functioning autistic kids and stuff.

Plus most of my family is seemingly on the spectrum.

Diagnostically I didn't necessarily meet the behavioral criteria as a kid but I think I did probably inherit a lot of the sensory integration memes. My tactile system seems fucky. Food textures fuck me up. Get overwhelmed by casual social touching. I only really sleep well under heavy cushions that function exactly like a hug box. Got auditory processing disorder (mind struggles to isolate important auditory stimulus in an environment with a lot of noise), adhd, weird hyper-empathy, I get overwhelmed by too much visual stimulus (sometimes it's like I can "taste" visual shit, I'm prone to stereotypic (stimming) behavior, and a bunch of other shit that probably could get me an ASD diagnosis if I hammed it up for a doctor.

But at the same time I think I inherited enough of my dad's outgoing narcissistic sociopathy, along with being raised by people that specialize in training autistic people to function normally, that I probably could be less of a fucking weirdo if I made the effort. No point in dragging down actual autists with my bullshit.

idk I spent a lot of time in my teens and 20s trying to self-diagnose and solve "what is wrong" by obsessing and malingering and trying to understand different mental illnesses to see if they applied to me. I think a lot of what makes people "wise" is "obsessive self-loathing" and the unquenchable research that may come from it.
