Way I see it you can draw how a real mouth behaves to learn how a mouth behaves and then apply that when you draw a cartoon mouth, or you can just learn how cartoon mouths behave from cartoons and keep drawing them
first method is the promise of results, second is immediate results
no reason to not do life studies anyway though; studying is fun
