In a certain sense he's correct, the process from which AI put togethe a drawing with the way an artist learns how to draw from reference is very alike.
The difference is we call shit like that "STUDIES" and even if (non-shit and self-respecting) artists use references, they don't LITERALLY use that exact same drawing as part of a puzzle piece to complete their drawing, the reference goes inside our head and we transform it and transfix it in a similar but different way on our canvas, where the AI generated art is essentially cutting up their stolen art in their database into a million puzzle pieces, putting them together and call it "original work".
