Here's 3 tips if you fall for this actually awful meme issue:

It has colour to alpha. Colour to alpha white and it will return your drawing to being lines on a transparent background.
>Levels/selective colour in PS exists
It can let you cut out lighter colours. If used remorselessly you will end up with very dark lines but you can also mask it or select it/smooth it/contract it and convert it into a path and then convert it back and fill in the path selection and usually this won't make the resultant ink look like shit
>select similar
This selects similar colours. It obviously won't select your lighter colours.

Make sure that you save seperate psds frequently and if you are too retarded to stick your lineart under a lock you can of course put it in a folder which has the same benefit of preventing you from randomly clicking that layer but also ensures that everything can be neatly categorised.

No. Find a face that is side on. Photos and by that artist. Typically I use upwards of 20 references if I want to get art that is good, I'll have references for the colours, references for the exact brush strokes, references for the anatomy, references for the style of blending and lineweight. I save them all to one folder and mentally combine them and frequently open the folder when I am painting. Sometimes I will flip through my archive of more than 2000+ images if I am uninspired.
