What I do is I go through my art/reference folder with the intention of studying a particular topic, whether it be anatomy, value, colour, etc. And I'll browse through until I see something interesting that I could study and further my understanding.

The reason I haven't made as much progress as I'd like is because I haven't studied enough, right now I want to try to achieve 1 hour of study a day but that's just a meager beginning. I'm pretty confident that if you want to make impressive progress and join those people who sit at the top of the mountain, you need to start studying atleast 3 hours a day. and that study can't be flippant, it must be focussed and productive, as if you were studying maths.
You have to actually be learning in that study, it has to be relevant to what you want your art to become and you have to be able to retain what you learn without forgetting it in a weeks time
