Not entirely sure what the exact problem you were struggling with is, but this might help you understand the logic of it better. As you can see, we can divide the green line with red lines at any angle we want. The red lines will divide both the green line and purple line perfectly as long as they are parallel and their distances are equal.
Then in the perspective view we just make the parallel lines go towards a VP.
