Bill Mauldin

>He was a comic strip artist for the Army newspaper during WWII. His comic, "Willy & Joe," were usually based on experiences he had on the front lines of the Italian Campaign.
>This comic here was drawn on by him on the Anzio beachhead with stamp pad ink, not pen ink. This was a comment on how, at the time, the Germans were pushing so hard to throw the Allies into the sea, that the only thing that was stopping them was fucking uninterrupted, point-blank artillery.
>Bill hadn't slept in days, hadn't showered in weeks, and was getting probably one cold meal a day. On top of that, he finished it during a fucking mortar bombardment that the Germans zeroed onto his beach.

People were fucking dying around him and all he could think of was his deadline.

What a fucking dedicated artist.
