It's so shittily described (seriously, what is the "line" of the hip? WHICH line?) and the drawing is bad too, so I can only guess at what he means. I also don't find anybody else calling it the "monkey hand." I think he's just talking about hyperextension of the joint. I never saw it a woman-only thing, though thinking on it, guys usually don't lean on their arm that way in the first place.

Arms can easily bend over 180 degrees. That said it's a bit exaggerated there especially since there is not pressure on the elbow.
