>I feel like being lgbt nowadays really helps your popularity and success in art, especially in the US.
It doesn't. There are 60 million people in the US that actively talk shit and feel threatened by homos. Being gay may help you in tumblr circlejerks or whatever but in general it's still kind of just something about you that a lot of people will reflexively dislike regardless of what you do. And then by being gay there's kind of an expectation that you have to be an embassador for every other gay person, and if you do anything shitty or weird ever people will use that as "proof" that their malignant feelings about you are justified.

Like would you RATHER be gay? If it was a choice do you think choosing to be gay would create more opportunities for you to succeed?

>Any online/offline experiences?
Yeah look at the comments section for known gay artists and you'll see a lot of toxic bullshit often.

>but the way you paint makes me just want to look away.
yeah plenty of them aren't overwhelmingly appealing.
>it features all the beginners mistakes that i dread and cringe at
Oh yeah I cringe too. But that's also the project. Just starting with a medium I had zero practical experience in, capturing ALL practice on canvas, so that as a collection it ultimately tells a story of a real piece of shit artists that is an ok person turns into a real piece of shit person that is an ok artist.

And the shitty evident mistakes and stuff is kind of what I'm talking about when I circlejerk about wabi sabi. Humanity is a series of mistakes and adaptations through time. And time is entropy.

>as far as i'm concerned, artistically, it's like you're taking a shit
yeah the difference is that I'm ok with this. All art production is the same thing. It's all ultimately making nonfunctional garbage for it's ability to make people feel.

>you probably feel some sort of relief afterwards
Almost never. In fact I normally stop right before last looks or finishing touches intentionally. As part of the project none of the paintings are treated as "finished" until the race is over.

> there's no real appeal to it.
I disagree. Taking a good shit is the best part of most people's day.

>you say it yourself: it's just a time table that you're working off
Well it's actually a whole fucking labryth of shit I'm working off. The "race" is to do more paintings in less time because
A: It's too uppity to "race" one of the most famous artists ever in "quality"
B: "quality" is a subjective concept, particularly for an artist that is famous paintings that his contemporaries thought were shit.
C: It creates an external structure on you that allows you to budget for time and money and stuff.

That doesn't mean I'm not interested and focused on growth and improvement and stuff, but you can't really build a race around that can you?
