The whole "anime" thing is as loose and vague as it gets, and basically a very modern day american thing to say. If one reads the comments of people complaining about "anime swordsmen" in normie games like smash bros or JRPGs in general being "too anime", it appears obvious that people using the term are not even capable of defining it well. It's all painfully surface-level and can probably only make sense for Westerners who discovered the existence of Japan, japanese culture and entry level series recently.
It's obviously just a vague aesthetic thing for them, and it can only make me roll my eyes (though their complete inability to properly define what they generally mean by the term "anime" always stays amusing, they desperately want that stupid word to mean something, which admitedly is hilarious in and of itself).
