how do I pick the ultimate 3 basic color pastels to mix all the colors with them?

I think, I could messily try with the pastels in the picture, but the Prussian blue is too purplish for having basic blue in paintings while the azure blue doesn't give a nice violet, more of purplish-blackish mess.

Also I heard that each color has more or less recommended basic hue like cobalt blue, ultramarine, prussian blue and cadmium light and lemon for yellows and cadmium red or carmine red, but do these form "sets/pairs" of sorts?
