If you're just trying to make your own art, Is it a waste of time to just grind fundamentals and do nothing else?

It seems like spending time developing your own artistic vision would be better if this is your goal. I feel like the fundamentals can grow with your creative vision, you can learn them as you just make the art you want, as you need it.

how important is it being able to draw photo-realistically, or have a great knowledge of anatomy if you're drawing cartoons and robots.

Thoughts on this?

Btw im not suggesting the fundamentals shouldnt be learned; im just thinking if spending all my time drawing fucking poses is burning me out.
