Didn't read thread, but I think there are only one reason:
Spite.

The reason for spite can be multiple, but ultimately you are trying to show either the person who made the art or the people who enjoy the art that they are inferior. It's a competition.

In the case of women being petty, I blame jealousy. They don't have the beautiful features that are craved, so they don't want cartoons to applaud those features.

Then there are ideological ones, like removing LGBT flags or swastikas for more obvious examples, or changing race or culture of a character, case in which it can blend a bit with jealousy: people enjoy white character? BAD! But it has become an ideological pushback, people draw disgusting brownoids and spread it over the Internet for good boy points? BAD! Let me turn them into nazis out of spite.

Then there are the stylistic preferences. Which might overlap with ideology, as you perceive everyone with a Tumblr style to be a Biden-loving tranny Mexican or every animefag as a coomer. But things like erasing Tumblr nose, making hands non-cartoony or what-have-you, those are primarily a visual thing. The artist gets put-off by those marks and has to erase them, call it OCD if you want. But the previous ones, jealousy and ideology, can also cause knee-jerk reactions, at some point we all Pavlov-condition ourselves into thinking BAD! when we see things we don't like.

It just so happens artists have the power to do it because they have honed their craft (to some extent). So instead of just saying words, which are less impactful, they can EDIT the thing and feel like they've won without needing a lengthy discussion about it.

All in all it's just mind AIDS.
I will sometimes edit the faces of people who I find ugly, but just in an attempt to discover what is ugly about them. I only used it to spite ONE girl who was hitting on me, sent a photo, so I fixed her face and messaged her the shopped version. Because I felt disgusted at being hit at.
