Depends on the direction your art leans.

The subject matter can be approached in a multitude of ways. A distinct style is useful for some projects but not for others. Same goes for realism as the goal. But why does the planet need a succession of accurate portraits of boring people? It needs new ideas,perspectives, visions. Better to find your own Voice than badly ape another's.
