What do you mean? Do you mean like you want to do creative work, as in come up with poses yourself? Or do you feel frustrated that you're on autopilot?
I think when you do a study you should really have a focus on the study. I think this wolf would've been a great opportunity to deconstruct flow, fur and how to shade yellow vibrantly, without it becoming washed out. This is probably totally different from what you're going for, but the end result of a study could be something that helps you make your style flowier, have greater depth and texture and shade fur more colorfully.
