I don't know about most of the time, Amano's work has that signature brow-ridge/eagle eyed features that sort of meld the masculine/feminine traits together. It's usually only the older men characters that he goes full on masculine caricature mode. Ruan's stolen that but he also tends to blend the strokes on his faces very soft, especially so in OP's pic like you've pointed out. It's a particularly hard contrast with everything else's textured forms, which I think is mostly a composition choice to draw your eyes to the amulet and then downwards to whatever gay shit's happening at his waist.

I'm not trying to suck Ruan's dick and shit on critique but it's just always puzzled me when people bring up his androgynous aesthetic when it's always been his "thing".
