no one defends that kind of art. it's troll scribbles. if you can't tell the difference between shit like that (or paintings made by an actual animal) and someone like pollock then you're hopeless.

There's nothing to get with Pollock. You like it or you don't. The only thing people who criticize his work for failing to communicate some 2deep4u message don't get is that there is nothing to get.

>What do you guys think of Jackson Pollock's work?
I dig it. Wasn't too big of a fan until I saw one in person. It spanned and entire wall and thick lines of textured paint raced and battled across the canvas. There were even a few handprints here and there. So long as you don't bring your preconceptions about what painting should or shouldn't be, you stand a chance of liking it, but he isn't for everyone.
>What do you see?
Paint on a canvas. This isn't a Magic Eye image, you're not supposed to see images in it.

same thing, unless you're looking for a semantic debate about the difference between "abstract" and "nonrepresentational".

>>2536166
he wasn't drunk when he painted, his binges were entirely unproductive. common myth though.

Hi /ic/.
I have here a smaller canvas and acrylic paint set. Want to get creative with my girlfriend, and just paint some shit, have fun and hang the result on the wall.

What your best idea for general direction to aim for?

We are both very amateur painters, she hasnt work with paint since elementary, I have some recent experience from school (architecture student here), but not very much.

Pic related.

There is nothing to understand. There is no narrative, it doesn't represent anything. It is paint on a canvas, with no outside referent or pretentious message. You like it or you don't.

But because of this, it is essential to experience the actual object, and not a thumbnail on a computer screen. The canvas is as large as your living room wall, and the paint has built up thick textures.

Part of the reason many people cannot understand or appreciate Pollock or other abstract expressionists is because they come into the gallery with preconceived notions about what art should be and what it should express. Don't expect a message, don't bother looking for recognizable objects, just appreciate it for what it is. Or don't, you're not forced to like it. Just don't judge it by irrelevant standards, look at the artist's own philosophy and goals.

ITT jelly kids trying so hard to make it in the world with their anime drawings, acting so very butthurt at another artist's success because they never took an art history course and can't understand anything other than realism.

the entire video is a joke, you'd have to be braindead to think the dirty paint rag he claimed tricked his own students looks anything like a pollock- regardless of what you think of abstract expressionism.

>muh aliens
you're probably referring to the fact that the CIA supported abstract expressionism. there was abstract art by successful artists before abex though, and lots of artists and movements throughout history have had benefactors. furthermore, there's no evidence that abex wouldn't have succeeded without the CIA, they just got behind a movement on the rise.

Educate you one what? Art history? You have the internet. Educate you on how to like what I like? Impossible and pointless, you're free to have your own tastes. But I won't pretend those tastes are born of scholastic brainwashing or jewish conspiracies, I accept that art is largely a matter of personal opinion.

do one better. "my kid could do that" is what people who've never picked up a brush say, there's a big difference between "random" and controlled chaos. if you can't tell the difference, that's on you.

>[Pollock's] work is an outlier in the abstract expressionist movement. It doesn't fit any of the other work or philosophy at the time.

Compare the attached Pollock to this de Kooning:
