Funnily enough, I find that JRPGs are way, way better at this kind of integration than most Manga. A lot of them practically *force* the player to spend gratuitous amounts of time doing mundane things in order to grow a player accustomed to spending time in a place, not to mention all of the mundane dialogue you can get from talking to various side-characters in a location.

Of course, that's a different medium with different constraints, and it's generally a bit easier in games to get a lot of playtime out of a specific location or set of assets once they've been developed than it is in comics. But I still think that we can take a page from JRPGs and RPGs in general when it comes to letting the audience and the characters linger in tangible spaces, building a connection with them and getting information about them on a visual level. Not to mention that it offers up another level of visual distinguishment for your manga or comic or whatever as a whole.
