There's not a "one guaranteed safe way" guide to it. I see everyone chose a different path, linked to their personal liking in regard to entertainment. I don't like superhero stuff, BUT, I think going through that path is a pretty safe good one. They use very clear and solid shapes, standardized shapes through out that industry wich is perfect, they all use the same builidng blocks (shapes), and also poses that are embedded in your brain after seeing them so many times in western culture.
Search 'superhero comic figure construction', and start drawing and copying everything, you can't go wrong with that as a start.
