It's always better to study mostly on analog, but a display tablet isn't that important, even if you mostly draw linework.
What is important is having a decently large tablet that allows for elbow and shoulder movement. You can find a lot of pros who use mainly or exclusively screenless tablets, but I doubt any use small ones.
