Look man, all I know from collecting pics is this. My autism has made me notice most anime pics can be classified by the number of shades used plus smaller highlights or dark (for emphasis or materials).

The main subject seems to use a two-shade+dark (near the hair, neck, outline) scheme with very soft edges. The food has four-shade+white. Even in small things like the shrimp plate to the very left is 3-shade+highlight.

So in summary looks for reference pics with 3+ shades, then get good at blocking those in from photos to represent shiny, matte, opaque, etc.
