Actual question. Did you just start drawing mindlessly a lot and just improved or did you actually watch tutorials/ read books for it?

I want to buy some artbooks to have at home, partly for learning, partly for decoration. What are you favorites?

I've had this happen a couple of times, I think it's because you lose perspective of what's actually good, and think you're doing better, but you're doing exactly the same or even worse than before.
Still, i don't really know, it's really confusing lol

Got any good acrylic painting technique resources?
It seems that most youtube tutorials are very amateurish

Anybody got a large gallery of reference images for the anatomy of limbs/whatever from different angles?

Has anyone gotten really good(at imaginative figure drawing) by just doing lots and lots of figure drawing practice? I've been doing that for about two months now and yeah I am seeing some slight improvements but i'm still not totally sure that it's helping me or taking me in the right direction.

I'm talking about imaginative drawing with next to no reference. I always wonder how comic book artists do what they do, or manga artists. I doubt that they use references for every single drawing they do. They just seem to be able to summon the drawing entirely from their minds maintaining proper proportions and likeness in various different scenes for each character.

What does it take to be able to do that? Should I just keep grinding away at figure drawings?
I'd appreciate some insight from anyone who has actually been doing lots of figure drawing for more than a year at-least. or maybe someone who has experience making comics with 'realistic' characters. No disrespect but if you're a novice like i am, i'm not really looking for your take on this.
