Where I can find more information regarding the differences in the way japanese and western authors approach stories? I've been mulling over this for a while. I don't mean common tropes that get used in each, but more in a macro lens, regarding structure, development, and conclusions.
Also, it's too hard to generalize, but I'd like to explore individual works more as well. There is popular American entertainment across the world that doesn't get as popular, or even bombs hard. in Japan, just like there are a lot of classic anime that never caught on in the US or are downright unknown to even casual anime fans, for reasons that shouldn't be oversimplified.
Take one of the few legitimately decent popular non-anime cartoons that managed to become mainstream on a global level, Arcane. It always failed to get in the Netflix top 10 in Japan, whereas it was a massive hit even in its neighbors South Korea and China. There's got to be an explanation for the difference in tastes, which should reflect preferences in storytelling.

What is the point of grinding shapes and loomis heads on their own if you're not going to use them for observational drawing purposes? I see many people focusing 95% of their output on the former without considering the latter (and they said their goal is to draw from imagination...), and those people usually take a shitton of years to get out of beg. On the other side, I noticed that the people who mainly do 75% personal work and 25% drawing from life + studying other artists while also not having a specific comfort zone tend to improve at very quick rates if they keep at it.
Is this the ultimate redpill?
