imma be frank, if your first book isn't interesting enough no one will read the other ones. write as though the next books will never happen, blow your load in this one, it will make the writing better

read it out loud. even if just to a teddybear, having to present it will force you to realise it is meandering, or the dialogue doesn't sound like real people sound
