happy new year. I am back with an interesting find.

In a past post, I mentioned that mangakas tend to copy each other in things they consider work and can apply to their own work. That's how it's always been.

I forgot to mention that the format of work for artists often incorporates assistants who, with time, adopt the style and take on features whether they want it or not, from the mangaka they work for until they manage to go independent.

It's an 2001 tankoubon with excellent panel clarity and readability (despite the low resolution scans).
But what interests me is the striking resemblance to Masamune Shirow's style from the late 1980s and early 1990s.
It's almost a "love letter to the author" during the first 2 chapters, with uncanny similitude in design language (character designs, expressions and objects) and mixing it with his own style evident in the rest of the tank.
I leave you with the GITS 1.5 because the one i found for the original is a mirrored edition. couldn't find the correct orientation and B&W, but it is still useful for reference.

According to my knowledge and limited research, they both have never worked together, but you'd never know given how reserved Masamune is.
