It's easier than it was at the beginning, and I'd say the ratio of passable heads to dogshit looking heads that I draw has definitely improved. But I figure Loomis has drawn tens of thousands, I'm almost up to my first thousand, so there's still a long way to go before I get super familiar with it. I was tempted to give up around the 400 mark, but I kept on.

I did it after but it's up to you.

I know I've posted this pic a lot but I'll update it at the end of this year, I've been on a portrait grind doing 1,000 Loomis block-ins

I drew from 45-90 minutes per day (sometimes more) in picrel, I'd say about an hour or two per day is enough to make reasonable gains in a year or two.
>do breakdowns of other artists
>reproduce your studies from memory
>apply what you learned to photo/life studies
>do finished pieces to figure out what you're bad at then study that aspect of drawing
If you're working every day to fix your mistakes, you can't help but improve IMO. At least as a beginner.

Here are my 18 month gains and here is my writeup about it:
>>/ic/thread/6715512#p6717479
tl;dr
>get accuracy to 80%
>learn the basics of gesture and construction
>steal a process from a better artist
>use that process to conduct studies of other artists
>use what you learn from those artists to conduct photo studies
>do memory drawings of all your studies to enforce those lessons
>gradually deviate from references to practice imaginative drawing

lmk if you have any questions

I'll PMW and just throw in my two cents
Get your fundies to a level where you can do studies of artists you like, then do studies of those artists. I wrote a whole big thing on it in a different thread, maybe one day I'll do a writeup and make a pastebin or something, but I want to actually git gud first, not just 18 months of noob gainz

The latest pic isn't quite "finished" yet but it's close enough, not bad for 18 months!
