feeling the same way, been looking at gloss, mystik, our very own nat, alleria, hungryclicker, csr they all do it their own way but there's more than just soft/hard edges, there's scratchiness and unblended brush strokes, fuckin around with layer styles, expressive linework leftover, that kinda thing. it takes some confidence to 'ruin' the perfect rendering you already have but ofc it can all be done in separate layers. it's worth doing some studies of them, even quick 15 min ones, and seeing which style feels natural and intuitive to your own work

i said this a while ago but seeing how this general is sometimes a little pyw-shy we could post some example work and do some studies together
