Not hearing of Vilppu mildly surprises me if they're into animation, but Loomis not really. He isn't and never really was one of the greats people make paeans too. His legacy is a series of books that clearly and logically introduces fledgling artists to the concept of construction drawing, which makes up like 75% of drawing from life and 100% of drawing from imagination. But he's far from the only way to learn it, just the most easily-obtainable way to get started when self-teaching through the internet. That's why /ic/, filled with people self-teaching through the internet, champion him, but people who learned the basics through a youtube series or a good art class would have no real reason to know of him.

Now, if any of those art students who can draw worth a damn have never used construction drawing, that shit would shock me.
