There's lots of nuance in the "gradients" of values/rendering
It's far more than just hard edge, soft edge or lost edge
Do a study like this, try to copy the reference as accurately as you can.
Consider how long and drawn out the gradients are, or how sudden they are, or how some start out very dark but then quickly transition to a lighter value and then become drawn it, etc, etc

I've been doing bargue studies for this exact purpose too, do those too

Aside from that I suppose you should learn to control your drawing program so you have the ability to blend any blurry blob you would ever need to. I use Paint Tool Sai
