>how do you study backgrounds
Go outside and sketch landscapes and environments. Read Perspective Made Easy and do the exercises

Break down the expressions in your favorite manga and aply them to your own works
>Composition
Read Framed Ink. Learn basic compositional rules (rule of thirds, golden rectangle/spiral, etc. ) and apply them to your own works. Do thumbnail composition sketches.

You aren't going to improve unless you actually do the work, and I guarantee all the manga artists you look up to put the effort into studying as well. You'll be surprised how much you can improve from an hour of focused study everyday, which you really clearly aren't doing. Redlining isn't going to help you because you won't learn anything from a redline unless you understand *why* a redline looks the way it does, and you pretty clearly lack an understanding of the basics.
And since you insist on "showing your work," here's some of my recent art. It ain't great by any means, but it's better than the stuff I was putting out before I started cracking down and studying.
