I think the eye corner being covered by hair (as well as the entire skull/ear) and the mouth placement (which is intentionally off-center for stylistic purposes) will throw people off. Also the artist probably didn't really do construction in the first place but sort of just winged it. I think you'd be better off studying someone else desu, this style is kind of quick and dirty.
