I like no nose (or VERY small dot nose) or "shadow" nose because dot nose looks like those creepy animal "cosplay" when people put their noses into ink can. IDK why but I very don't like it IRL. And "real" noses are cringe too, usually it's ok only on photos or real people or on realistic renders. Pure IMHO.

oh and i guess to expand on this. what really gives people a lot of trouble with anime is that it relies on a lot of smart visual simplifications and bending of the rules and just copying those outright if you don't understand the thought process behind the drawing basically doesn't teach you anything besides how to be a better copier. it's like copying another student's shorthand notes without seeing the actual lecture. this is why i really do not like the /asg/ approach.
by starting with an accurate anatomy study and then translating that into animu you're forcing yourself to understand the why you can just draw a dot and have it look like a nose. and when you know how a nose is actually structured, you can place that dot on a head from any angle.

i think it mostly comes down western artists imitating the most superficial aspects of the style without learning the actual subtleties that make it look 'right'. drawing bootleg animus is really easy, making designs that actually capture the feeling takes a lot of work. pic related, one of the places i see most people go wrong is in the construction of the nose i unironically think drawing good anime is harder than realism
