I would say that's a bit more literal than symbolic. In the first appearance of Tub in Tonkventures, we find that Tub was a girl witch little recollection of her past and was motivated to discover the reason for the traumatic situation she lived in while growing up.
To that end she had discvoered she had origins in the moon. But when she traveled there she was not able to make it back to earth. Tonkers ended up tryign to rescue her but ended up getting stuck there as well. Naturally because Tub is an empath she greatly regretted getting Tonkers caught up in all this, but Tonkers reassured her it's not her fault and that he'll find a way out for both of them, even though Tonkers was skeptical of that idea internally.

Tonkers went back home....
