Is there any alternative to conventional figure drawing techniques?

No, this is not a troll post. I'd been legitimately trying to apply Vilppu's figure drawing techniques and they just... never felt right. Something about using geometric/defined shapes feels extremely awkward and mechanical. Am I doing something wrong? The end product is fine but the process is just agonizing.

For the record, I've been trying to use Vilppu's methods (as well as others') for years but even to this day they don't sit well with me. To be fair, I don't exactly draw on a day to day basis, but I feel like I should've already used the techniques enough to have them incorporated into my skillset.
