As a beginner, don't be hard on yourself. Pens and pencils may not be your medium.

Here is a screenshot of Second Life, and everything was made by me. The building blocks wear my textures, the avatar my model, her dress my creation. It's using a game engine that allows the players to create whatever they can,and many make real life livings from selling these virtual goods. I liked to make animated paintings and exotic ballrooms, even a spacestation themed brothel with 4 distinctively different spaceships that one could rent for their entertainment equipment parked at it. I did it for free, just because it was a fun project and a challenge to my ingenuity. After working 6 nights a week tossing boxes around at night, then cramming as much art time as possible made for years of isolation, so I was shopping around for a fast food equivalent of a social life other than hunting down railgun faggots with the TooMuchFun chaingun on Quake 2 servers. I tried WorldsAway,a 2d affair that was semi customizable but for a lurker seeking interesting conversations in public to chime in on had slim pickings there, and everyone who had anything "custom" in their cartoon cutout avatars would gather in cliques and gossip. And around 2006 I found Second Life. Interesting conversations were still hard to come by, but it was the building that intrigued me for years. In short, understand how you interpret this creative urge. Do you want to tell stories, create cool characters, maybe dabble in modding your favorite games. Explore experiment expand existentially.

And have fun.

Do you count Second Life as an art form?

It captivated me for years. And made everything in this screenshot, even the avatars dress.
