Hello friends, should aspiring comic book artists, such as myself, learn to paint? If I want to draw a scenery as beautiful and as subtle as pic related, is the only way to learn it by first learning full value and color painting, before simplifying it into inks? Or can I learn to draw this beautifully using only ink?

Also, can animators, cartoonists, and other such line-only artists benefit from learning to paint?
