I think an artist has to do more than be famous and have their art displayed in a big gallery to be historically significant. Hirohiko Araki fits your criteria but the art history types couldn't care less about him and I don't consider him to be historically significant either. Or pic related by Takashi Murakami. The dude is famous and shown in galleries around the world as well. I honestly don't think any of the artists you posted are "pushing boundaries" at all, just my opinion. /ic/ isn't very knowledgeable about non-commercial art but I found your attitude a little dismissive to the other anon is all. You dismissed the entire profession of Graphic Design as "brainless shit" while proclaiming superiority by appealing to fame and authority. I think you should look at the actual art piece and form your own opinion on it. I don't care for critical acclaim or buzz, just the art.
