on a diff pc so I cant help demonstrate but what you're trying to do is called a cross contour so google that, you want to draw a line over the surface of the form. in one of the villpu books he said"imagine you're an ant walking across the surface" or something.

You'll get it, and its really important that you do because you'll be able to draw planes which will help you draw and shade in 3d
