dude dude dude
you're doing it all wrong. draw what you see, not what you know. don't think of figure drawing as "copying a picture" but rather as "recreating a pose, a movement"

also read a bunch of Loomis, Bammes, etc anatomy books you can find easily online. and give up those hard bold edges. it's disgusting.

I've just been studying this way. Like right now I've been working on perspective and form. And once I get a hang of that, as well as value, I plan on moving on to the other stuff.

i'm not too sure if it's constructive to do a bit of everything...

As good as loomis is, I found some of it rather hard to grasp when I was starting out. When I began I focused mostly on perspective since that was probably my worst, and I found that after developing my sense of 3D space, I had a much easier time with everything else. Studied stuff from Michael Hampton & Ron Lemen , as I preferred their approach (but I still learned a lot from loomis).

Also, as for the question of classes I found it to be like this:

Classes: Good for if you need to be motivated/disciplined, ask feedback from teachers, get critique and have a lesson and goal in an effective order. Cons would be cost of course, and be sure to check out the teachers work to see if they know what they are talking about.

Self-Taught: Nowadays this is much easier with video streaming and access to numerous PDF's, but if you have no sense of goals, being critical of your own work, or a shred of self-discipline, you are going to fuck up bad and waste tons of time learning nothing (or worse become stuck in the deviantart hole where you spend years with no advancement due to ego and/or the hugbox effect). Also more difficult to get outside critique if you don't know any decent artists. Admittedly, when I first self-taught I omitted several key fundamentals and wasted time by reinforcing bad habits because I had nobody to tell me I was doing some things horribly wrong.

That's my 2cents, also pic related might help.

Found this if you haven't seen it yet since it gets passed around a lot.
This is basically what i am talking about, even though the right drawing is constructed of simple
shapes it looks more human than the dawning of the left. Get to know the body, and the brake it down
with logical simple shapes, then connect them with muscle and flesh while you add details.
That's of course only one way of doing it, you will many times finde very experienced artist going straight
to the final lines, but i suggest you give this method a try for a start, gesture then simple shapes and then final details.

first of all your redline looks great and all the points you have mentioned are valid.
but proportions and anatomy are definetely not what he should worry about yet nor should he spend time copying loomis or getting into stuff like drawing drapery.

>>1457491
you are still in that symbol drawing stage.
Maybe have a look at the videos from moatdtutorial + read the sticky? It will help you to understand what drawing is about.

Drawing on the right side of the brain teaches you to see the world in a different way, thus forcing you out of symbol drawing, which is why it's good for beginners. Loomis' fun with a pencil teaches basics of construction.
Look for line confidence exercises after you've done it so that you start right from the very beginning. Peter Han's video is very good. Make sure not go whizz through it and do all the line exercises, preferably regularly.
Study perspective (Norling, gnomon training, Ctrl+Paint, Scott Robertson techniques vol.1, etc). Apply it to your life drawing, by practising with objects that can be broken down to basic forms (books, mugs, phones).
Should be enough for now. Image is a guildeline.
