Dear stairsfag (and every pixel artist in this thread)
Don't be afraid to study from other games
Pixel art is a medium of it's own with dozens of intricate tricks that aren't so important in traditional art.
Just as you'd study "the masters" for regular art, you'd study the best pixel artists for pixel art.

Peep at this example, two different sets of stairs in two different styles, yet they both work, can you make out why?
