You have a pillow shading problem.

Dude, what you're doing right now is pillow shading. You're simply filling space with lighter colours towards the centre of the shape. What you should be doing is shading according to a light source or from a specific direction, pic related is a good example of how much better it could be.

The lighting is bad.
The reason it is bad, is because you've just done one side with pillow shading and then flipped it horizontally.

Pillow shading, especially symmetrical pillow shading, gives the illusion of not having a proper light source, making it look like shadows are not being cast correctly.

Please practice avoiding pillow shading, it will vastly improve your pixel art.
Picture related.

No, in your color drawings. Stop adding black and white to your colors to render. Look at real photos and use a color picker and see how much the color changes and how it gets warmer in the sun and cooler in the shade.
And stop pillow shading.

Hm, your perspective looks a little off, as 5018 said. His nose for instance appears to be at full profile, but his mouth is closer to 3/4ths. Your light source seems.. Indefinite, though that might just be chalked up to bad shading. Don't fall into the trap of elaborate design = good drawing! Do you have any earlier progress shots? Or a picture of a different drawing altogether?
