did a quick demo to show what i mean, it isnt perfect but should be easy to understand what you should be doing if you want to even learn anything with tracing

and yes, tracing creates bad habits especially the way you were doing, it is only usefull for either trainning inking/lineart, get a feel for the correct construction you would need to reproduce the image, or understand how to shade and represent the forms with shading

and even then, the faster you move to just using reference the better
