Hey Brian. I'm the anon that said something about your value composition/handling in a previous thread, related to this or a very similar painting. My main criticism was that your values are pretty much the same all over the picture, and I suggested you look for more variety, a more interesting value structure.

I put you up against Rubens here just because your pic reminded me of that one (same subject, pretty similar pose, just inverted). To be fair, Rubens' figure could have a lot more shadow in some parts, but at least he's using dark values around the figure to generate contrast. Notice how the darkest dark (shadow under her) and the lightest light (white sheet by her breast) are not on the figure but rather framing it. One could argue that you do the same (lightest light would be the white sheet by her knee, darkest dark either the hair or the shadows under the pillow), but due to how you apply paint, your values are never a solid mass but rather loose brushstrokes, which kinda lose effect when it comes to contrast.

Anyways, love your work, just trying to help and maybe generate some constructive discussion. Keep at it, buddy.
