For women makeup is like clothing, it's just style, little to do with insecurity and "the wall" meme as they begin taking an interest in it while they're still children, find it fun, etc. and it's always been this way since prehistory. Look at the fashion industry and those models with perfect faces, yeah, they still wear makeup because it makes them look more stylish. You could cherrypick a few shocking "before and after" examples but most beautiful women with makeup are still beautiful without it and ugly ones are ugly even with it.
