Another idea. Try to work with a heavy limit on your options. For example try to work with nothing but black and white and no greys. Like comic artists do and try to convey shapes with that and only that.

You do not have to be 100% white on the background but have only two values that are distant from each other. They key is to limit yourself to few options so you force yourself into "problem solving." And develop under the constraints of simple tools.

Look at Mike Mignola's art for example, how he conveys a lot of form from with just black and white and minimal hatching.

Bottom line as I said in the other thread study life and study other art.
