draw as many drawings as you can using refs but when you are drawing try to see the pictures as 3D piece, once you have the hang of it go for a more detailed version, repeat this until it's very close to the refs, once you are good at this understanding the forms underneath of anime styles is going to be easier way easier, at this point all it is left is polishing your style. IE 1 part is just the very basic then it goes more detailed on part 2 and 3 and 4 are just understanding the planes of the face of this ref.
having a basic understanding of the human anatomy would makes some parts very easy to understand like the socokets, nose bridge, cheekbones, jaw forms which then you have to stilyze but you need a very basic knowledge tho.
