I don't know how recent this is, but the only person on this chart that makes more than me is the voice actress.

I guess you don't get into animation for the money.

>Tell me more about why you think it's not as wise now to not get into art?
I must not have been clear. I was looking for a succinct way to explain that when I went to college, getting into computers instead of art was a sure thing. I would like to maintain that it's still the safer bet, but so much has changed since then, I feel I can't fairly state that as such an absolute certainty.

... but my instincts tell me I'd still be right.

>Because there are more streams of getting money in art, or is it because a computer science kind of degree is not as worthwhile as it seems?
Your degree will get you your first job. Your current job will get you your next job. Once you have experience under your belt, hiring managers are looking at your work history, not your education.

Yes, there are more streams of getting money in art, but for the vast majority, the steadiness of income and the security of employment with benefits outweigh the narrow possibility of raging success in the art world. Yes, there are plenty of artists who make more than I do, but to me, that's like pinning your hopes on playing professional football/basketball/baseball or having a smash hit album that comes out of nowhere. For every Sakimichan, there are a legion of artists better than me who are barely getting by.

I don't know how old or accurate pic related would be any more, but the only person picture who makes more than I do is the A-list voice actress.

>Seeing all this higher education anons having chosen not to go to uni to pursue art instead feels unsettling

Not to dissuade you even further, anon, but I initially went to pursue a fine arts degree, but switched to computer science when I realized "starving artist" was just not for me. On the one hand, I now make more than everybody in this infograph except for the voice actress. On the other hand, my art hasn't improved a whole lot since high school.

>Do you sometimes wish that you had pursued something other than art?

I did, actually. It cost me a few extra years in college (changed majors when I decided "starving artist" was not for me), but now I make more than everyone in this infograph except the A-list voice actress.

The downside is my art has barely improved since high school.

>The estimated earning of a junior mangaka is usually between 25-35k$ a year. Thats >30% less than the average wage in Japan and less about about a 3rd of that in the US.
>Can you live from it? Yes, frugally. Will it make you rich or help you be financially stable? Lol no.

I found this image digging around on-line. I don't know how recent or accurate it is, and I'm not trying to live in Japan's economy, but ... damn!

I make about as much as a cg animator in Japan. So I'm poor by American standards, but I'm reminded that it could always be worse. Considering I'm doing a menial, no-skill job it's not too bad. I work in a small store so I'm able to draw a bit on the job too which is nice.

Can anyone vouch for Cacani? It's barely over $200 and looks like it has decent enough features.

>inb4 just pirate everything fagget

I don't steal if I can help it and in this case I certainly can so fuckin' do somethin', nigga.
