Keep on painting

Paint everyday

Pay attention to reality when you do your still lives, there are so many subtle things that you can find if you look hard enough
>the subtle changes in colour as you get further from the lightsource
>the subtle reflection on a smooth surface
>the change in temperature of a shadow
>the colour of another object glowing and being reflected in a nearby object
>the way objects further away get closer and closer to the colour of the atmosphere

Paint everyday, read books like 'Color and Light by James Gurney', 'The Student's Guide to Painting by Jack Fragasso', 'How to Render by Scott Robertson' and 'Alla Prima by Richard Schmid', they talk alot about the subtle traits of realism. Most importantly you have to paint alot to get used to it, practice makes perfect

From what I've seen over the years of how people improve at art or whatever is that you improve the most when you make a very mindful effort to learn

You could sit down for 16 hours a day and draw some still lives whilst watching anime and you would certainly improve your general control over the brush but you probably won't improve your fundamentals skills that much

What I mean by mindful effort to learn is
Look at your art and your abilities and write down what is wrong with it, write down what you need to improve for example let's say you need to improve your anatomy

Then go to whatever resources you have for improving anatomy whether it's YouTube or a book
and pay attention to that resource, draw some correct anatomy referencing the resource until you feel you understand it so much that doing anymore is pointless
and then close the resource and your previous drawings and do some more. After than check back and if you made any mistakes it means you didn't understand it so you must go back and learn it again until you DO understand it.
You should also post your drawings to forums like here and get people to critique you, and when they do you must immediately redraw your thing correctly and post it back, do this enough time until they no longer have any critique to give you
