Michael Hampton Figure Drawing Book
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCgPj2jSpcJaN6C5xMi8ohfg/videos
You can use the others as a reference
don't stick with just 1 source, especially in anatomy

It could help to have a general thread where certain important books are uploaded to google drive so that, while reading the book, anons can benefit from the opportunity to post and read comments and questions about the book and its specific parts. Here's an example with Michael Hampton's figure drawing book https://drive.google.com/file/d/1u9UC0NmizUkrUvxhKarbcwdw79euxeux/view?usp=sharing

Am I supposed to supplement this book with outside figure drawing? The author talks about inventing poses but I have no mental library for such things, I can't think of anything to draw and make use of the knowledge in this book.

What is the best way to learn from it? The book itself presents ideas but it seems like it demands imagination drawing skills

Construction isn't about rigid frameworks either, it's just to help you put complex shapes into perspective more easily by simplifying them. Also, most people combine gesture and with at least some form of construction, at the very least wrapping lines to show volume.

Anyone else ever get those thoughts? Art is my main squeeze, but the closer I get to transferring to an art school, the more I feel like it's pointless, I should just continue to self-study and get a degree in a trade that's lucrative out the door.

Michael Hampton's Figure Drawing: Design & Invention has a really nice section on drawing faces and it breaks down learning body proportions into sections. Make sure you learn how realistic proportions work before trying out stylized ones and draw a variety of different faces and bodies, u kno.

3d (dot) sk is a website I've used a lot for facial (lol) references, or using photographs of yourself is good since you see those proportions on the regular. I really love gesture and figure drawing, so doing that is a big help, if pixel lovely is still around, that's worth a shot.

I think the best thing is to start really, really basic and build yourself up. Best wishes.

>stylized anatomy
That's all it is, a book with 100s of different artists drawing 3 different poses of each gender in front view, 2/3'rd view and side view.
This is not a book you should be reading if you're a complete beginner.
The book is good at seeing different styles of other artists and maybe making it your own but that's it, you won't learn bone placement, muscle insurtions, or anything anatomy related. They don't even have back views.

If you want to learn anatomy read Micheal Hamptons books, watch Glen Vilpu, do gesture drawings.

Vilpu works wonders if you can hear him. If your just starting off though I would recommend Michael Hamptons figure drawing s first, then anatomy for sculptors

If you could read only one artbook in the world what would it be and why?
