Just a few random thoughts that might make this work better:

+ I think the values could use a little tweaking. In particular, I think you can utilize better values to help differentiate the foreground (front 2 buffalo) and the mid ground (predator, mountain & buffalo). You can do this by lightening up the midground so the front 2 buffalo really pop.

A small but important addition here would be the slightly lighter background on the far right to help give that buffalo a better silhouette, thus creating more contrast and giving that area a little more purpose in the composition while still keeping it dark. There's a buffalo there - really show it. I think this is important because the far right is currently a bit of a muddy mess that's hard to read and an overall useless area. You might as well crop it out.

In simpler terms - there's too many blacks; you need to separate things a bit more.

+ Consider adding a bottom rim light to the figure. It really wouldn't seem totally out of place, given that stampedes are pretty dusty (which dissipates light), and it could really add to the intensity of the scene and the intimidation of the predator. Overall I think it could really help things 'pop' a bit more.

+ I know it's a WIP, but I'm hoping you'll be adding some sort of dirt / kickback from all the feet tearing up the ground. For the dust - I recommend playing with a mix of soft and sharp edges.

I hope this makes sense. I'm a little stoned. Looks great regardless!
